Why Should You Marry In Autumn?
If you are planning a party or are a newly engaged couple looking at the ideal date for your celebrations, autumn is so much more than ‘the bit between summer and Christmas’! Read on to find out why you should consider having your special event at this time of the year.
The rustic, vintage theme that is currently so popular during the summer months can easily be used in the autumn. The beautiful converted barns, that have been transformed into wonderful venues, are ideal for this theme. Gone are the days when they were draughty and damp. Now, many are kitted out with state-of-the-art, creature comforts like sound systems, heating and open fires, making them ideal for the cooler temperatures that come with this time of year. Where would be more perfect for a harvest supper themed wedding or party than a barn?
Locally we are blessed with some fantastic barns which lend themselves perfectly to your autumn event.
Furthermore, there are often opportunities to save some money by choosing a date out of the peak summer season. Venues and suppliers often offer reduced rates to help your budget go further and giving you opportunities to spend more on that dream wedding dress or honeymoon. Suppliers and venues can get booked months in advance for the summer months; not so in autumn and winter.
Don’t be put off because it might rain. It does, after all, rain an awful lot in the summer too. Be prepared with appropriate footwear (leather rather than suede or satin), pashminas for bridesmaids, colourful umbrellas! Just go with it rather than shying away from it. ‘Weddington boots’ for brides are all the rage! Don’t forget your wedding guests too. Cosy blankets piled up in baskets, are the perfect accompaniment for nippy evenings by the open fires.

The autumn months are all about colours and tones. Warm reds, russets and golds of the leaves of the changing season, bright orange pumpkins, brown conkers and green acorns, red rosehips and fat ripe berries all make for a beautiful warm wedding theme and add to the decorative possibilities. Take advantage of the early darkness with plenty of fairylights or candles in lanterns to create a cosy, romantic and warm atmosphere.

As the leaves turn and the temperatures cool, the key to any successful menu for autumn is to think comfort food. Close your eyes and imagine what you’d eat next to a crackling fire and why not indulge your guests with the stodgiest and yummiest of comfort foods! Think pecan pies, doughnuts, candied apples, fruit crumbles…..carrot cakes, all the tastiest treats. Choose family favourite recipes and you can even make it a DIY affair – family member and loved ones will love being able to contribute! Bowl food is definitely the way to go. And all that loveliness washed down with some warming apple cider punch or perhaps a blackberry and apple mojito. The possibilities are endless!
